Fulton County EXPOSITOR

From the Fulton County EXPOSITOR, Wauseon, Ohio

April 29, 2008

Dear neighbors,

Our firstborn son Samuel had emergency open-heart surgery at University of Michigan on December 23rd, 2003.  He was just two years old.  Homecoming was New Year’s Day, 2004.

Samuel was home here on our family farm for only 5 hours.

Then he took very ill, and was life-flighted from Fulton County to Toledo Children’s Hospital.  During that time, he had surgery to place a Gastric-tube for nutrition.

At Ohio University, where we attended together, our favorite nursing instructor had warned us about long-term use of canned G-tube formulas, which, while convenient, are hardly more than sugar water with a bit of milk powder.  She stated that the patient will “fail to thrive.”

We wanted Samuel to thrive.

So, Brian developed a whole-food food formula that would meet the requirements of the pediatric cardiologist.  It had to be one-calorie-per-milliliter, just like the canned formula, to accurately monitor fluid intake.  Also, it had to flow through the small tubing and work with the sensitive optical sensor on the feeding tube pump, or we would be awake all night with beeping equipment.

The formula contains many things from our farm: free-range eggs, liver and knuckle-bone broth from our grass-fed Scottish Highland cattle, yoghurt from our goats.

Stazy Lind, RN, owner of the former T.H.E. Health Food Store in Wauseon, helped us with other ingredients, such as coconut oil for brain development and nutritional yeast for B vitamins.

Samuel got much better, even while enduring ten more heart surgeries in the next two years.  The surgeon even made a comment how well Samuel heals, which is unusual with so many incisions so frequently in the same spot.

Last autumn, we felt that we had learned so much about whole-food nutrition and health that we wanted to share our knowledge with other people.  We contacted Stazy, since her establishment had perished in the downtown fire.

She very graciously helped us start a business right on our farm, providing invaluable expertise from her experience downtown.

Here, we offer nutritional consulting for Standard Process® whole-food supplements and Mediherb® herbs, available exclusively through health care professionals.

We sell homeopathic medicines, grass-fed freezer beef, and other healthy fare like honey, stevia, sea salt, and organic orange juice, nuts, teas, grains, and flax, coconut, and extra virgin olive oils.  We also sell Mélksōp milk soap, made right here on our farm.

Here too, you’ll find Samuel, with his baby brother Wolf, thriving.

Sincerely,

Captain Brian T. Bowman, RN, ATP
